A stretching system which works by essentially attaching oneself to a near vertical wall and using one's own body weight to hang from it.

    Athletes are forever looking for ways to improve their endurance, strength and flexibility but on the face of it this idea sounds like it's stretching things a bit. It involves a wall and a floor - both made of a strong velcro like material - and an athlete wearing a pair of sticky shoes and gloves. It's an invention that individuals from divas to the disabled are using with good result, along with many top international athletes. Even FIFA, football's governing body, wants it but we Kiwis don't seem to be stuck on it at all. The invention's designer talks to Robyn Janes.

    Paloma Bruce - one of the eight opera singers who have benefited from training on the Bodywall system - has been accepted to the Royal College of Music in London. Like all the singers training on the system, Paloma has enjoyed increased access to range with improved tone power and endurance from Bodywall's unique ability to access all the muscular and skeletal components of voice production. "Bodywall training has helped me tremendously, it has changed my posture and allowed me to have even greater control of my voice, I no longer get tired after a concert series and finally after years of training have found my real voice, I really find it hard to put into words just how much it has helped me." Paloma was a Price Waterhouse Coopers Dame Malvina Major Emerging Artist with NBR NZ Opera in 2005.
