The Bodywall Background

A stretching system which works by essentially attaching oneself to a near vertical wall and using one’s own body weight to hang from it.

Three main components:

  • The shoes
  • The gloves
  • The wall
  • The wall and floor are set at a 5° angle from vertical and horizontal.

Three years of development to date:

  • Testing at the Sports Performance Centre at AUT (Testing Report)
  • Used  by  the Auckland Warriors and team NZ at the America’s Cup
  • Endorsed by Waikato Institute for Leisure and Sports Studies
  • Overcomes traditional barriers to stretching - that it can be painful and  awkward.

A key benefit over regular stretching is that the system can achieve movement without muscles on the opposite side of the joint contracting.
